the design trade.

Craft runs in our family, quite literally. My great-grandmother, Aimee C. Lacey, founded Lacey Champion, long regarded as one of the finest hand-tufting mills in the world. My mother is an interior designer, as was hers before her. My father's father sold carpet for a living. On both sides of my family, for generations, this has simply been what we do; we've always called ourselves, half-joking, "carpet people."

My father, Jim, spent nearly two decades mastering the craft under Mrs. Lacey before founding Patrick James, Inc. in 2005, determined to build something entirely his own, yet rooted in the same exacting standards he'd spent years learning.

That standard still shapes everything we make. Every piece is built from natural, renewable fibers: wool, silk, cashmere, mohair, linen... We produce only to order, never to stock, so nothing we make is ever discarded or warehoused. And because every rug is handmade, it's built to outlast trends entirely: a true heirloom, meant to be passed down rather than replaced.
